The third Fundy Sea Shanty Festival, which takes place in St. Martins, N.B. from Aug. 9 to 11, 2024, will feature a number of performers new to the festival, together with some returning favourites.
"We are delighted to have Quebec's Brise Glace returning this summer. They were an audience favourite in 2022 and will be our Saturday night closer," said Gary Caines, the festival's artistic director. "And we are all-hands-on-deck to welcome the Barra MacNeils as our Sunday headliner. They will close the weekend for us and will be performing two sets." The Barra MacNeils, a Cape Breton family-based group, have been thrilling audiences for more than thirty years.
Other returning performers include Chris Ricketts, from the United Kingdom; Melanie Ross and The Taproom Growlers from Nova Scotia; and Saint John's Before the Mast. Newcomers include New Brunswick performers Katherine Moller, Sons of Gael, Dram and A Draw and Riverview's Riversong. Bytown Sea Shanty Collective from Ottawa will be on the mainstage both days, as well as Quebec's Seán Dagher. Seán is widely known for his sea shanty song recordings with the Assassin's Creed video game series, including Black Flag. On Friday, Aug 9, he will be offering a presentation regarding his contribution to the creation of the video games.
The festival will also feature children’s activities; dance and sea glass workshops; rum, whiskey and beer tastings; historical lectures and more. On Saturday and Sunday more than twenty craft and food vendors will be featured in the festival's Harbour Bazaar.
The Fundy Sea Shanty Festival is hosted by Fundy Sea Shanty Festival Inc. Principal sponsors include Envision Saint John: The Regional Growth Agency, Port SJ and ANBL.
